Steve Bell CBE is a Brighton and Hove City Councillor for Woodingdean. He is also the Group Leader of the Conservatives on the Council.  As Group Leader Steve is the spokesperson for the Conservatives on the Policy and Resources Committee.

Steve was elected to Brighton & Hove City Council in 2015, became Deputy leader of the Conservative Group in 2017 and then Leader of the Conservative Group in 2019.

Steve has been successful in bringing forward many initiatives to the council, with a focus on community safety, protecting green spaces, securing the future of the City's heritage and protecting taxpayer's interests. 

He brought Public Space Protection Orders to the council eye and then pushed for their implementation.  He has worked to protect and financially secure the future Brighton & Hove's Heritage sites by successfully advocating for the Royal Pavilion and Museums to be moved into a Trust.  By working with the Unions he has been successful in protecting workers rights and campaigned for “tell us once” bereavement service into the council which has recently been adopted. 

As a Councillor for Woodingdean Ward Steve takes an active role in supporting community interests and standing up for his community.  He serves as Chairman of Woodingdean Tenants and Residents Association and a committee member of Woodingdean Neighbourhood Watch and the Woodingdean Community Association.

Steve is fighting to save Green spaces in Urban Fridge, including protecting Happy Valley to remain an open green space for the enjoyment of families and all residents.

Steve is highly respected in the Conservative Party, having held every position within the Party from Branch, Association, Regional and Party Board which cumulated in Chairing the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester in 2015.

Steve left National Politics in 2016 to concentrate on Local Government and work towards a better-run Brighton & Hove City Council that better serves its residents.

Conservative Group vows to fight City Plan through its Consultation phase

The Conservative Group has today vowed to keep fighting the City Plan Part 2 on behalf of residents and community groups as the plan it goes through its public consultation phase, following last night’s decision by Labour and the Greens to vote for the plan that builds on 16 urban fringe sites.
